For many children and youth, wearing glasses for the first time can be unsettling, but looking cool never is. Eyewear brands that reflect toys kids like to play with or the shows, stars, and characters they watch on television or at the movies bring some excitement to choosing just the right frames. Trusted brand-name frames and designs help kids overcome their concerns about wearing glasses and help parents and children make the right decisions about eyewear.

Today’s eyewear brands offer the latest in lens technologies, including anti-reflective lenses that eliminate annoying surface reflections, increase light transmission so youngsters see more clearly, and virtually make lenses invisible. Parents must weigh lens benefits against how kids might treat their glasses. Although anti-reflective lenses are durable, they don’t hold up to extremely rough handling.

Tinted lenses also are more popular with children and teens today. Some lenses change color density, such as the Transition lenses.

Adding another fashionable touch, today’s lens technologies can create very thin lens profiles that are still highly impact resistant. For some vision-correction prescriptions, this means avoiding thick glasses that might trigger embarrassing comments from other children.
