If you have been contemplating on getting contact lenses, you are likely to be wondering what to expect during a contact lens exam. The first step in acquiring your new vision tools is to contact Bettner Vision in Colorado Springs to make an appointment with our optometrists. Here is some information about what to expect during your contact lens exam so you can familiarize yourself with the process.
Your Vision History Is Discussed
When you arrive at your appointment, you will be asked to fill out some necessary forms about your vision and eye health. This is important so that our Colorado Springs optometrists are aware of any prior treatments you may have received. If you had been to an eye doctor in the past, have your records transferred to our office so that we you’re your history available pertaining to your eye prescription and general eye health. Bring along any insurance information with you so our office staff can provide you with proper pricing at the time of your visit.
Your Eye Health Will Be Assessed
A few different tests are provided to check on your eye health. These are non-invasive and only require a few moments of your time. They are conducted with the use of state-of-the-art machinery and illumination sources to check on the condition of your eyes. This is to determine if there are abnormalities that need to be addressed. If you are going to opt for a close look at the pupils, drops will be placed in each of your eyes to dilate them. You will need to have someone available to drive you from our office after your examination, if you decide to have this test conducted.
Your Vision Is Checked and a Fitting Is Conducted
Before you can wear contact lenses, your prescription strength needs to be determined. This is done in the same manner as if you were getting eyeglasses. You will need to read some letters or numbers from a chart using various strengths of glass placed in front of your eyes. When your prescription strength is noted, you will then need to be fitted for contact lenses. This is done by looking into a device while our optometrists measures your pupils from the other side of the equipment. Make sure to avoid blinking as we gather your measurement data. Afterwards, a sample pair of contact lenses are provided to you to try on to check on their fit. If you need hard to fit lenses, our optometrists will recommend which hard to fit lenses will be best for your eye condition.
