At Bettner Vision, we provide comprehensive care to meet the vision needs of our patients. As an optometrist, Our Doctors offers pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing LASIK eye surgery or other eye surgical procedures. Our goal is to help you attain the clearest vision possible using advanced technologies.
Evaluation and Referral
LASIK (laser assisted in situ keratomileusis) surgery uses the latest advancements in technology to provide faster recovery times and precise results. LASIK surgery has been effective in treating myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and other eye conditions. At Bettner Vision, we provide evaluations and referrals for patients interested in LASIK surgery. Our Doctors performs a complete review of your patient history as well as a full assessment of your eye health and vision. A current exam is important to determining if you are a candidate for LASIK surgery and if there are any other factors that may affect your results. The history review enables our optometrist to determine if your prescription is stable and you are healthy enough to consider surgery.
Once Our Doctors has performed the evaluation and determined whether you are a candidate for LASIK, you will be given a referral to the LASIK surgery center we have worked with on an ongoing basis. The center will perform advanced diagnostic testing and will evaluate your eligibility for surgery. Various surgery options will be discussed with you if you are determined to be a surgical candidate. We will be in correspondence with the center regarding your evaluation and surgical determination. If you are considering LASIK surgery, call us at (719) 282-0400 to schedule a consultation.
Once your surgery is scheduled, we will schedule follow-up appointments for you in our Colorado Springs office. Typically, you will begin these follow-ups the day after the surgery and continue at prearranged times over the following six months. After 1 year, a full exam is recommended to determine the long-term results of your procedure. Our Doctors is experienced in working with patients pre- and post-operation and will answer any questions that you have along the way. If you have questions about LASIK surgery, call (719) 282-0400 to speak with our knowledgeable staff or email us.

What is LASIK?
LASIK, or 'laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis', is a normal refractive surgery procedure. The reason for its popularity is that the patient usually experiences significant improvement in vision as soon as the day after surgery. The treatment uses a laser to remove very tiny pieces of corneal tissue in your cornea to help reshape it. This can help you whether you are near or farsighted. Once complete, light will be focused more accurately into your eye and onto the retina, resulting in clearer overall vision.
The goal of the procedure for people with nearsightedness is to fractionally flatten the cornea while for farsighted it is the opposite. The big advantage of LASIK treatment is that it does not require any time in the hospital. In fact, the procedure itself only takes around 15 minutes for both eyes at the surgery center, although you will need to allow at least an hour so that post operative tests can be performed.
When you can open your eyes and see well enough to walk without glasses you are released. But it is the standard to have someone who can drive. Over the next week or so, you will need to apply medicated drops several times a day which will help protect your eyes and aid in the healing process.
Post LASIK Treatment
For the first few days, you should also avoid straining your eyes. This means wearing 100% UV sunglasses if outside and keeping the lights in your home dimmed. You will also need to come back to see us during this time so Dr. Bettner can ensure that everything went as planned. With over 20 years of optometry experience, Dr. Bettner specializes in the treatment and management of ocular diseases and treatment.
