What Surgical Co-Management Means for Your Recovery

Surgical co-management allows Bettner Vision and your surgeon to share responsibility for your care. Our role includes confirming your prescription, assessing eye health, preparing you for surgery, and providing the follow-up visits needed to monitor healing and vision afterward.

You benefit from the continuity of working with the same eye doctors who already know your eye history, while your surgeon focuses on the procedure itself. This coordinated approach keeps both offices aligned and ensures that your long-term eye care continues without disruption.

Cataract Surgery Co-Management

Cataracts develop gradually, and decisions about timing depend on how vision affects daily activities such as driving, reading, or navigating glare at night. During routine eye exams, Bettner Vision monitors cataract changes and discusses when it may be appropriate to meet with a cataract surgeon.

If surgery is recommended, we provide the pre-operative exam to evaluate your eye health and review general expectations. After surgery, we complete your scheduled follow-up visits to check healing, measure vision, and coordinate any necessary communication with your surgeon.

Refractive Surgery (LASIK) Co-Management

For patients considering LASIK or other refractive procedures, Bettner Vision evaluates candidacy as part of a comprehensive exam. We review your prescription, overall eye health, and lifestyle needs, then discuss whether refractive surgery may align with your vision goals.

If you move forward with surgery, we partner with a local surgeon and remain involved in your care. After the procedure, our team performs your follow-up visits to monitor healing, assess visual clarity, and update eyewear needs if required. This process keeps your pre- and post-operative care connected to your long-term optometry home.

When a Surgical Evaluation May Be Helpful

A pre-surgical evaluation may be appropriate if you:

  • Have been told you have cataracts
  • Notice increasing glare, halos, or reduced night vision
  • Are interested in reducing dependence on glasses or contact lenses
  • Want guidance on whether LASIK or another refractive procedure may fit your needs

Even if you are early in the decision-making process, a visit can clarify your options and help determine a general timeline.

If you have already chosen a surgeon but prefer Bettner Vision to manage your pre- and post-operative care, we can review your records and coordinate directly with your surgical team.
